The study aims at investigating the oral rendition in Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting. In the study, six subjects who are taking the C-E simultaneous interpreting class in the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation in Fu Jen Catholic University and who have already studied SI for a semester were involved in the research by collecting their recordings in one interpreting class. Besides, six other subjects who are also FJU graduates and who have entered the interpreting market for two years also interpret the same testing material and their recordings are also collected. By analyzing the collected data from the twelve subjects, the researcher is able to examine the categories of problems encountered by them. Both quantitative and qualitative methods are used in this research, with corpus being the main research method. In addition, retrospective interviews are carried out to investigate the reasons for problems.After the experiment, it is shown that there are both similarities and differences between student interpreters and professional interpreters in terms of the categories of problems and the reasons for problems. Generally speaking, ranked according to their appearance frequency, these problems are: grammatical mistakes, correction, omission, filled pause, silent pause, repetition, and misinterpreting. Respectively, the frequency of problems varies for student interpreters and professional interpreters.The purpose of the study is to make comparison and contrast between student interpreters’ performance and that of professional interpreters, in order to provide an insight to students’ further simultaneous interpreting training. This study draws on Gile’s Effort Model(1995), Gerver’s processing model(1976), Moser-Mercer’s processing model(1997), and the error categorization by Barik(1994) to assess the performance of the collected data.
