China has always attached importance to the development of sports.Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out that building a major and strong sports country is one important part of achieving China's Two Centenary Goals(Xi Jinping 2017).In recent years,Chinese government has put the development of football on the agenda.“National Youth Campus Football Schools” and Mantianxing Training Camp Project have been launched throughout the country. The author started to interpret for a Serbian professional football coach,Nenad Milanovic, from September,2018 to July,2019 as a football coach interpreter. The tasks included interpreting at special football classes and growth courses at Tan'gu Primary School, interpreting for girls' football team during trainings and competitions, and interpreting for Mantianxing Training Camp. Both simultaneous and consecutive interpretations were applied.Football interpreting not only requires a large amount of professional knowledge, but also requires appropriate interpretation theories for guidance.Football coach interpreters shall improve the accuracy, ensure the quality, and complete interpretation tasks.Under the guidance of Daniel Gile's Effort Model(EM)and Li Changshuan's Understanding,Memorizing,Expression, and Emergency Response(UMEER)framework theories, the author provided personal analysis through case studies in listening, taking notes, understanding, memorizing and expressing of preparing process, interpreting process with skills of emergency response, and reflection of post-interpreting.Interpreting methods and insights were applied under the two theories. At the same time, the author pointed out that interpreters should pay attention to non-linguistic factors especially “interpreting quotient” — the ability to coordinate efforts to all parts in the process of interpretation. The author hopes that this report can assist himself and other football coach interpreters to deal with similar interpretation problems in the future.
