A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of The Wisdom Of Ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine And Health(Excerpts)

With the deepening of opening up to the outside world,Chinese culture has increasingly gone abroad and stepped out of the country into the world.China’s international status and national cultural soft power have been continuously improved and the treatment methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine have gradually been recognized and accepted by people all over the world.The translation of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture books is not only conducive to the dissemination and promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture,but also is an important way to improve the international status and influence of Traditional Chinese Medicine,having an important practical significance.In this translation practice,the author selects the sixth chapter of the Wisdom of Ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine and Health as the translation practice text.It mainly introduces the concepts and methods of health preservation in ancient times,and the essence of ancient classic medical books and provides many effective ways to improve the quality of life,and explains the healthy living concepts about reasonable diet,moderate exercise and a set of specific operating systems.The Wisdom ofAncient TCM and Health is an information-based text designed to convey accurate and objective information to readers.In addition,the text directly quotes some expressions with rich traditional culture in Yellow Emperor’s Internal Canon of Medicine,requiring translators to have a deep understanding of traditional Chinese culture.In the process of translation,the translator made an attempt to the translation of Traditional Chinese Medicine texts by means of annotation,free translation,amplification,conversion of voice,nominalization,adjustment of word order,loan terms,literal translation,transliteration with notes.Through translation practice,the author realizes that Traditional Chinese Medicine translation plays a key role in the dissemination and promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture.For Traditional Chinese Medicine terms with rich connotations,the translator should not adopt a one-size-fits-all translation method,but choose effective translation strategies and take cultural characteristics into consideration under the guidance of Skopos Theory so as to achieve the purpose of cross-cultural communication.The translator sincerely hopes that the translation methods proposed in this report will be helpful for the translation of similar Traditional Chinese Medicine texts and can contribute a little to the going global of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture.
