As a subtype of disaster films,epidemic disaster films show the disasters caused by unknown viruses/pathogens to human society as well as the crisis and salvation of human beings in the epidemic.(Since some zombie films have elements of epidemic disaster,they are classified as epidemic disaster films in this study.).Since the new century,the epidemic disaster films in South Korea have developed rapidly in response to the frequent occurrence of epidemic crises in the real society.However,the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 makes the public pay more attention to epidemic and disaster films featuring intertextuality between real space and imaginary space.Throughout the Korean epidemic disaster films,it is not difficult to find that they have profound national marks and cultural symbols,as well as reflect the national psychology,crisis consciousness and social reflection and other grand propositions.This paper aims to study the Korean epidemic and disaster films through narration,analyze the Korean epidemic and disaster films from the perspective of narrative theme,narrative time and space,narrative perspective and narrative structure,find out their unique narrative strategies,and enrich the theoretical research on the epidemic and disaster films.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter defines the concept of Korean epidemic disaster films based on the existing relevant materials,studies the epidemic types according to the films that meet the standards of epidemic disaster,and analyzes their internal narrative elements.The second chapter starts with the narrative characteristics of the Korean epidemic disaster films,and finds out the typical styles of the films,such as the typological integration of human ethics,political metaphor,image transmission of social culture and national psychology.Secondly,based on the narrative characteristics,the thesis deeply explores the theme dimension of the Korean epidemic disaster films.The third chapter analyzes the uniqueness of the Korean epidemic disaster films in the construction of narrative time and space.The fourth chapter,starting from the narrative discourse,studies the narrative perspective and narrative structure of Korean epidemic disaster films.The conclusion part points out the current practical significance of South Korean epidemic disaster films,summarizes the unique narrative strategies of South Korean epidemic disaster films and the deep aesthetic effects behind them,simply demonstrates their predicament in narrative,and sums up the differences in theme and plot performance between Chinese and South Korean epidemic disaster films. |
