Yan Lianke’s "Palou series" is the representative series of his novels.Compared with his previous novels,Yan Lianke pays more attention to the fictionality of the text in order to pursue a spiritual transcendence and present a "possible world" for the readers.Based on Wolfgang Iser’s theory of fiction, this paper studies the fictionality in Yan Lianke’s novels. The first chapter of the thesis discusses the fictionality and the theory of fiction. In the history of Western literary theory, the concept of "literary fiction" is constantly changing, epistemology and linguistic theory are representative viewpoints. In the background of postmodernism,Wolfgang Iser developed his theory of fiction from the perspective of literary anthropology. The second chapter analyzes the reality, imagination and fiction in the novels of "Palou series".Through the reconstruction of local memory, the summary of personal experience and the modern imagination of local China,Yan Lianke achieves the trinity of reality, imagination and fiction in the "Palou series".The third chapter analyzes the construction mode of "Palou series"——the choice, the fusion and the self-deconstruction.In the "Palou series",Yan Lianke chooses the separate geographical world, the special folk resources,he also carries on the fusion of language, structure and style. The novels present a large number of absurd plots and real details for the readers. It suspends the reality through the structure of "as if" and completes the fictional "self-deconstruction" of the text. The Fourth Chapter analyzes the game and the performance in the novel text.Yan Lianke’s fictions are full of playfulness and amusement, but at the same time, his fictions are transcendent, which can show the spirit of literature in the game. And,the fiction in"Palou series" is actually the writer’s performance of transforming his inner self into multiple roles in his creation, presenting the infinite plasticity of human beings.
