Changes In Tang Poetry

The discussion of Han Yu’s acceptance of Du Fu’s Poetry by previous sages has focused mostly on Han Yu’s inheritance to Du Fu’s Poetry to illustrate the influence of Du Fu’s Poems on Han Yu,and less on Han Yu’s transformation and development of Tang poetry based on his study of Du Fu’s Poetry,which is what brought to light the"not yet obvious or tendentious" elements of Du poetry that transformed Tang poetry.Before Han Yu,few people paid much attention to Du Fu’s Poetry because the poetry aesthetic tended to be different from that of the time and was not widely circulated,as reflected in the fact that few poems by Du Fu were included in the Tang poetry anthologies of the time,and few people that were friends with Du Fu mentioned his poetry.Han Yu’s acceptance of Du Fu’s Poetry was a choice made at a time of change.After the An-Shi Rebellion,the poetry world was in dire need of reform,and it became the consensus of the times to draw from the literary traditions of the previous dynasties and change the poetic style of the Dali,as well as for personal reasons.As a result,his enthusiasm for Du Fu’s Poems,with its majestic power and unconventional spirit of innovation,profoundly influenced his creative practice.In the Middle Tang Dynasty,Han Yu’s time was marked by political turmoil,a plurality of ideas,and a further shift toward secularism,which led poets to pay more attention to the real world.The first is the expansion of subject matter.Han Yu further evolved the slim tendency of poetry that describe daily life into secularization,incorporating everyday trivial and mundane subjects into the poetry,whether they were suitable for poetry or not,and changing the aesthetic orientation of Tang poetry,which advocated "divine charm and natural elegance".Inspired by Du Fu’s Poetry,Han Yu broke through the original system and norms of poetry,discussing,reasoning,and spreading out in his poems,changing the rhythm and rhyme of poetry,and transforming Tang poetry with ancient chapter and syntax.The style of poetry is an external manifestation of the combined efforts of many factors.Han Yu inherited the strange and dangerous poetic style of Du Fu’s Poetry and pushed it to the extreme,turning the strange into the dangerous,presenting it as a ruthless,grotesque,ugly-as-beautiful,and even carelessly beautiful and ugly,opening up the mountains and becoming the face of poetry Han Yu’s poems.Han Yu’s acceptance of Du Fu’s Poetry contributed to the great changes in Tang poetry,firstly,by promoting the transformation of Tang sounds into Song tones.Secondly,Han Yu’s poetic tendency to be dangerous,strange,vulgar,hard,heavy,grotesque,jagged,and rough shakes and subverts the aesthetic ideals of harmony and elegance,neutrality and calmness,naturalness and balance of the classical Chinese poetic tradition,opening up a new world of Tang poetry.
