A Study On The Cemetery Of Marquis Of Jin In Quwo,Shanxi

From the Western Zhou dynasty to the early Spring and Autumn period,there are two cemeteries of Marquis of Jin,which are located in the east of Quwo County,Shanxi Province.There are 19 tombs divided in 9 groups of Marquis of Jin and their wives in the cemetery of Marquis of Jin in Beizhao.Six excavations were carried out from 1992 to 2000.There are five tombs divided in three groups of Marquis of Jin and their wives in the cemetery of Marquis of Jin in Yangshe,two of which were excavated in 2005-2006.According to Bamboo Annals(ancient text)and the bronze inscription calendar,Su,Marquis of Jin,the tomb owner of M8 in the cemetery of Marquis of Jin in Beizhao should be Marquis Mu,which can effectively solve all the relevant contradictions.According to the identity of Su,cemetery limit,distribution of sacrificial pits,names of Marquis of Jin and historical background of each period,the name of Jin Marquis and the historical background of each period,the cemetery of Marquis of Jin in Beizhao should be the cemetery of 9 Jin Marquis and their wives,including Marquis Wu,Marquis Cheng,Marquis Li,Marquis Jing,Marquis Xi,Marquis Xian,Marquis Mu,Marquis Wen and Marquis Zhao,and the cemetery in Yangshe should be the cemetery of Marquis Xiao and his wife,Marquis E and his wife and Marquis Ai.The change of cemetery layout can also support the corresponding relationship of tomb owners.From the perspective of cemetery layout,the ritual system of respecting the left has been established since the third group of tombs in the cemetery of Marquis of Jin in Beizhao.The establishment of this ritual system should be a concrete reflection of the ritual system reform of the dynasty.Since then,the changes in the layout of each group of tombs have something to do with the specific historical background.As for the reasons for the transfer of cemeteries,it is directly related to the relocation of the capital.The tombs of Marquis of Jin have the particularity of times and region.As far as the particularity of the times is concerned,it is closely related to the overall changes of the Zhou Dynasty’s vassal cemeteries.As far as the regional particularity is concerned,it is not only related to its own unique geographical environment,but also related to the degree of compliance with the Dynasty’s ritual system.As far as the research results of this paper are concerned,fully combined with archaeological materials,literature handed down from ancient age and unearthed literature,and supported by new arguments,this paper demonstrates the corresponding relationship between the tombs and their owners from two cemeterys of Marquis of Jin,and makes an in-depth analysis of the layout of the cemeteries.
