Grammar is an important part of English teaching in senior high school.For a long time,the way that teachers present and students practice grammatical knowledge is frequently used for teaching grammar.Both teachers and students tend to be bound by textbooks and exercises.Grammar teaching is divorced from real application.With the issue of The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School,as well as the reform of the college entrance examination,teachers’educational idea has renovated a lot.They have renewed understanding of grammar and grammar teaching,and try to innovate grammar teaching methods.The New English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition)puts forward new requirements for English grammar teaching,emphasizes that grammar learning should serve for accurate and decent language output.It regards the development of core literacy as the key for language teaching.Multiple intelligences and humanism are the theoretical basis of the research.By means of questionnaire,classroom observation and interview,this study investigated the current situation of English grammar teaching methods in senior high school.In addition,text analysis method was used to interpret The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 Edition)to study whether the English grammar teaching methods in line with the New Curriculum Standards.This study mainly discussed the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of English grammar teaching in senior high school?(2)What methods are mainly used to teach grammar in senior high school?(3)Are these teaching methods consistent with the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards?Are there any deficiencies in the implementation of these methods?For sake of solving the research problems mentioned above,it took three-month to make a research on grammar teaching methods in a senior high school in Beijing.This study takes 120 students and 3 English teachers of grade one as the research participants.Furthermore,SPSS software is used to make descriptive statistical analysis,and three major findings are concluded in the research.The research results are as follows:Firstly,students find it difficult in learning grammar.Most of them are satisfied with the grammar teaching methods used by the teachers,and hope that teachers can regularly renew English grammar teaching methods.Secondly,deductive teaching method,inquiry teaching method and PPP teaching method are the most commonly used grammar teaching methods,followed by discussion method,inductive method and situational teaching method.The least used teaching methods are communicative teaching method and task-based teaching method.At last,the grammar teaching methods adopted by teachers meet the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards in general,but some shortcomings have still existed in application yet,such as the lake of language materials,less participation of students,the incomplete teaching procedure of PPP method,etc.Grammar teaching is of great significance of English teaching in senior high school,especially in grade one.It is the key to connect the grammatical knowledge of junior school education and high school education.Based on the research results,the English grammar teaching methods meeting the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards are proposed in the last part of the research to further improve English grammar teaching in senior high school.
