In 2016 the Ministry of Education amended and promulgated the “Ordinary Senior High School English Curriculum Standards”.It made clear the requirements and specific interpretation on the status,aims methods,and principles of English grammar teaching in high school.Under such circumstance,the study is carried out to investigate the situation of grammar teaching in Chaoyang City,Liaoning province.The main research questions in this study are as follows:(1)What is the situation of practical application of grammar teaching method for high school English teachers under the New Curriculum Standard?(2)In the above situation,how do high school students respond to the teacher's grammar teaching methods? 270 students and 24 English teachers from three senior high schools of Grade Two in Chaoyang participated in the study.In order to ensure the survey is representative,the participants were from the municipal key school,district key school and average school respectively.The questionnaire and interview were used to conduct the investigation.The study shows that most teachers realize the importance and goal of grammar teaching and point out that grammar teaching is necessary and must be taught during the whole process of English teaching.The majority of teachers teach grammar by combination with inductive and deductive methods.Teachers tend to adopt more strategies,models and ways and enhance the practice of teaching activities during grammar teaching.Meanwhile the survey also found some problems and phenomenon: the understanding of new curriculum standards and the methods of foreign language teaching is not thorough and profound;the reasons for students' language errors can't be accurately analyzed.;the abilities to design activities and tasks need to be improved in teachers' grammar teaching;grammar learning enthusiasm of high school students is quite low.In consideration of the above findings,the study puts forward some feasible suggestions for grammar teaching and learning in order to improve the students' comprehensive language ability.
