The basic task of vocabulary teaching in Chinese as a foreign language is to train foreign students’ ability to recognize,distinguish,choose and use words.However,the current research on synonym discrimination for foreign Chinese learners is mostly focused on error classification,error analysis,error causes and teaching countermeasures,the research results of synonym discrimination of Chinese learners with nationality are insufficient.In recent years,the number of people learning Chinese in Thailand has been increasing,learners above intermediate level gradually encounter problems of synonym acquisition and discrimination,however,there are few research results on the discrimination of Chinese synonyms among Thai learners.In order to help learners acquire Chinese synonyms better and faster,and to improve and promote the quality and development of country-specific Chinese teaching,it is necessary to pay attention to the study of synonym acquisition and discrimination.Through a questionnaire survey among 100 Chinese learners in Thailand,this paper investigates the basic learning methods,errors and learning needs of Thai intermediate and advanced learners in the acquisition and differentiation of Chinese synonyms on three levels of semantics,syntax and pragmatics.Based on Excel data statistics,this paper compares and analyzes the similarities and differences of synonym acquisition between learners of two levels,probes into the acquisition situation and difficulty of learners of different levels,and summarizes the basic characteristics of s ynonym acquisition by learners in Thailand.The survey results show that there is a significant relationship between the learners’ ethnicity,age,educational level,learning duration,Chinese level and other factors and the synonym acquisition,and the difference of these variables affects the respondents’ synonym acquisition and discrimination.From the perspective of the correct answering rate of the analysis questions,the correct answering rate of advanced learners is generally higher than that of inte rmediate learners,this indicates that advanced learners have better synonym acquisition than intermediate learners.However,in combination with the framework of discrimination,it is found that the semantic and pragmatic accuracy of synonyms are well dis tributed,and the syntactic data fluctuate greatly.This indicates that Thai intermediate and advanced learners’ syntactic acquisition of synonyms is not as stable as semantic and pragmatic acquisition,and they have better syntactic and pragmatic acquisition,while syntactic acquisition is far inferior to semantic and pragmatic acquisition.Therefore,we should return to teaching and classroom itself,pay attention to synonym teaching of different countries,and strengthen pertinence.According to the general rule of the learners to acquire Chinese synonyms teaching arrangement,pay attention to quantity and quality of the example,pay attention to the difference of synonyms in the example,emphasizes on the training of words collocation and the comparison of han Thai vocabulary,and HSK synonyms study,by these methods to help learners to improve the ability of analyzing Chinese synonyms Thailand.
