A Report On The E-C Translation Of Children’s Literary Work A Sprinkle Of Sorcery From The Perspective Of Skopostheorie

With the deepening of cultural exchanges among different countries,children’s demand for knowledge and culture about the foreign countries has been increasing continually.As a window for children to understand the outside world,children’s literature translation has become more and more important.However,the current situation is that,compared with the great demand for children’s literature translation,there are relatively few theoretical and practical researches,which leads to the lack of theoretical guidance and relatively unified translation quality standards in the practice of children’s literature translation.Meanwhile,it is difficult to control the effective implementation of translation quality.Hence,it is of great necessity to make an in-depth study of children’s literature translation.Based on Skopostheorie in functional translation theory and taking the present author’s translation of A Sprinkle of Sorcery(2020)as a case study,this thesis analyzes the difficulties in the translation process of the present author,summarizes the language characteristics of children’s literature texts,and puts forward some suggestions on the choice of translation strategies and methods as well as techniques for translating such texts.The aim is to give some useful references to the E-C translation of children’s literature,and also to offer some enlightenment for the introduction of excellent foreign children’s works and the enrichments of domestic children’s literature texts.The thesis firstly introduces the research background,the profile of the author’s translation task,and the significance of the study.Then Skopostheorie and its core concepts as well as its three main principles are expounded.In the following part some important issues in pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation work are explained.After that the difficulties in the translation of A Sprinkle of Sorcery are discussed,and the adoption of appropriate translation strategies,methods as well as techniques under the guidance of Skopostheorie are illustrated.The last part of the thesis summarizes some helpful experience in the author’s E-C translation practice.It is expected that the present study may offer some useful insight into the in-depth exploration on the children’s literature translation.
