| Reading is a good way for students to absorb information and knowledge.English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education encourages students to learn and use English through observation,experience,exploration,cooperation and other ways,creating as many language practice opportunities for students as possible,and guiding them to study independently.In the interview and classroom observation at the initial stage of the experiment,the author found that students were not very interested in reading,and their participation in the class was not enough.In order to improve this situation,this study applies the Jigsaw method to the middle school English reading class,and uses the methods of case analysis,interview and test to answer the following two questions:(1)Can Jigsaw method improve students’ reading interest and reading scores?(2)How to use Jigsaw method scientifically and effectively in reading teaching?In this study,100 students from class 5 and class 6 of grade 8 in a middle school in Xiangtan were regarded as research objects,among which class 5 was the experimental class and class 6 was the control class.The study lasted for 16 weeks.During the experiment the control class still uses the original teaching method,but the experimental class is trained with Jigsaw method.At the end of the experiment,the author analyzed and summarized the teaching cases based on the teaching practice,compared and analyzed the test results of the experimental class and the control class with SPSS,and summarized the interview results.The experimental results show that(1)Jigsaw method can improve students’ reading interest and scores,and enhance their learning confidence.(2)Jigsaw method can improve students’ reading ability(3)Jigsaw method can improve students’ abilities of cooperation and sense of responsibility.In terms of the application of Jigsaw method to reading teaching,the author puts forward three suggestions:(1)In the preparation stage of Jigsaw method,teachers should carefully select reading materials and assign tasks and set questions.(2)In the implementation stage of Jigsaw method,teachers should strengthen supervision.(3)In the evaluation stage of Jigsaw method,teachers should pay attention to the diversity of evaluation. |
