Study On Yang Shixiu’s Concept Of “14 Ge” In Origin Of Sphragistics

Based on the aesthetic way and connotation of Signet,Origin Of Sphragistics uses "14 Ge" to evaluate,which forms an important theoretical basis for signet criticism.The main content of this essay is to study the "14 Ge" concept mentioned in Origin Of Sphragistics.First to define “Ge”,that "Zheng Ge","Dian Ge" and "Chao Ge" have the meaning of standard;"Gui Ge","Mei Ge","Lao Ge" and "Shen Ge" have the meaning of style;while "Xian Ge","Qing Ge","Hua Ge" and "Jie Ge" have the meaning of critical terms.Then to analyze the critical methods used in "14 Ge" and compare with others of Sphragistics.It is found that "14 Ge" not only uses the typical critical method of Sigillography,which is "image critique",but also uses the critical methods of "figure metaphor" and "experience description" in Book Theory for the first time.At the same time,it achieved to have two approaches of criticism’s "refined Ge" and "shortcut Ge" within the same "Ge".Then,the essay makes semantic remarks upon the classification of "14 Ge" and clarifies the connotation of each series standards of "aesthetic","method" and "criticism".Finally,the core content of "14 Ge" and the relationship between "Ren sheng" and "Tian Sheng" will be discussed.The signet evaluation standard of "Ru Gu" that under the influence of "Ren Sheng" and "Chu Xin" of "Tian Sheng",along with the additional content "Dian Ge" and "Chao Ge" to extend the standard.
