| The goal of basic education in China is to improve the quality of people and develop creative talents.Having English class can help students know about the world and cultivate students’ multicultural communication skills.Chinese teachers and students have a growing respect for learning English.But in most English classes,English teachers always pay more attention to teaching reading,writing and grammar,completely ignore developing the listening ability of students.Listening ability as an important ability to learn English for students,plays a significant role in improving students’ comprehensive ability.Hence,English listening teaching in junior high school becomes a major problem for English teachers.Under the background of Curriculum Reform in China,many English teachers in junior high school abandon traditional teaching ideas and methods and accept new teaching ideas.At that time,some teachers learn how to apply the Situational Teaching Method in class.Applying the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school English listening,which will arouse students’ emotions and stimulate students’ interest in learning English listening.In a real situation,teachers guide students speak English spontaneously and improve students’ listening ability.Hence,this paper applies the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school students,from the perspective of empirical research,aiming to solve three problems:1 Is it feasible to apply the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school English listening?2 How to apply the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school English listening?3 Is it effective to apply the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school English listening?There are 42 students from an ordinary class in the second grade of junior high in Harbin.They were selected as the research subjects.The experimental period was 3months.First of all,I learned that students’ listening status and teachers’ listening methods through questionnaires,interview and pre-listening test results.Then the Situational Teaching Method was applied to junior high school English listening.Finally,I conducted post-listening test results and used SPSS statistical analysis software to compare and analyze the two listening test scores of the two classes.It is verified whether the students’ listening ability is improved under the Situational Teaching Method.I randomly selected 6 students for semi-structured interviews to further understand their acceptance of the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school English listening.The experimental period was 3 months.Based on comparative analysis and interviews after the experiment,this study found that students’ listening score has been improved and the teaching method can stimulate students’ interests.Hence,the application of the Situational Teaching Method to junior high school English listening is effective,it can improve students’ English listening ability. |
