In 2017,China promulgated the English curriculum standards for senior high schools.The requirement of developing students’ Core competence of English subject is clearly put forward in the document.The Core competence of English subject has four aspects,which are language ability,cultural consciousness,thinking quality and learning ability.English reading is one of the four English language skills and plays an important role in English teaching.But there are still some problems in English teaching.Teachers still use the traditional cramming teaching model,teacher-centered,ignoring the main role of students in education.In addition,the teacher in the reading class is only the students in advance of words and grammar and other aspects of the explanation,and then translated the whole article,neglecting the cultivation of reading strategies and the cultivation of students’ overall reading ability.Therefore,teachers should adopt new teaching methods when teaching English reading in order to arouse students ’interest.Mind Map is a visual tool that combines keywords,images,and symbols.It allows students to establish a connection between the old and new knowledge in reading,thus enhancing the understanding and memory of reading comprehension.At the same time,it can also enable students to accurately grasp the structure of the knowledge points as a whole,and finally improve the reading efficiency.Under the guidance of Core competence theory,this study aimed at the status and importance of reading senior high school English reading teaching.What’s more,from the reading strategies and mind map teaching theory,this study through the literature reading carding and analysis to find the feasible teaching methods,and through the experiment verify the core quality perspective mind mapping is a positive influence on senior high school reading teaching.There are three main problems in this study: What is the current situation of high school students’ English reading? How to apply Mind Map to senior high school English reading teaching from the perspective of Core competence? Can the application of Mind Map in senior high school English reading teaching stimulate students’ reading interest,improve students’ reading achievement from the perspective of Core competence? The experimental subjects of this study are Grade 5 students of a high school in Harbin,lasting for one semester.In this study,four methods will be used for testing: Literature analysis,Questionnaire survey,interview and testing,and use SPSS Software to statistical and analysis of experimental data.The findings of this study are as follows: firstly,although students think reading is very important in English learning,they think the teaching methods adopted by teachers in class are boring,and they have no reading strategies of their own.Secondly,from the perspective of Core competence,Mind Map can be applied to high school English reading teaching.Finally,the application of mind map in senior English reading teaching can arouse students’ interest,improve students’ reading performance from the perspective of Core competence.In a word,the author hopes that this study can provide some ideas for English reading teaching in senior high schools and make reading teaching more effective.
