The core competence of English subject is put forward in the New Curriculum Standard for high school in 2017 which attaches importance to the development of capability.When it comes to achieving students’ core competence of English,English teaching is a greatly significant tool.The core competence of students is incredibly influenced by reading teaching which is a crucial role in senior high school.But in fact,now some teachers still take advantage of the traditional teaching mode which pays less attention to the dominant position of students.This teacher-oriented teaching mode attaches less importance to fostering students’ interest and cultivating students’ reading strategies and skills,laying much stress on the explanation of vocabularies,expressions and the translations of the text.Without taking students’ requirements into consideration,the traditional teaching mode will have negative influence on students and prevent students from cultivating the core competence.Therefore,it is necessary to find an English reading teaching model that is suitable for students’ development and requirements.On the basis of Zone of Proximal Development and Constructism,scaffolding teaching has been widely used in some fields but there are few studies on the application of scaffolding teaching in English reading teaching in senior high school.From the perspective of core competence the author tries to apply the scaffolding teaching model to English reading teaching in senior high school,and analyzes the impact of this teaching model on reading teaching.Three research approaches are employed which conclude questionnaires,reading tests and interviews.The participants are high school students who come from Class 8and Class 9 in Grade 2 in Fuyang City.And the experiment lasts for 20 weeks.After conducting the experiment,with the help of SPSS the author analyzes the data which is obtained from the reading tests,the questionnaires and the interview in the experiment.And the issues below can be solved after the study.1.What is the present situation of English reading in high school?2.Can students’ reading grades be increased when scaffolding teaching mode is used in English reading teaching in senior high school?3.From the perspective of core competence,what feedback do students have on scaffolding teaching mode in English reading teaching?After analyzing the survey results,the author reaches some conclusions.Firstly,before the questionnaire,some students take less interest in English reading learning and have considerable obstacles in reading.Besides,some students can not make use of reading strategies flexibly and participate in classroom activities actively.After the experiment,the scaffolding teaching mode improves students’ present situation of English reading learning.Secondly,the scaffolding teaching mode contributes to boost students’ reading grade and capability.Finally,students prefer reading and have more confidence in themselves.The author hopes to offer some practical proposals both for students and teachers so as to create a more fruitful reading teaching.
