| The core competence of high school English subject includes four dimensions,namely cultivating students’ language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality,and learning ability.Compulsory education English Curriculum Standard 2022 edition,it is clearly proposed that high school English teaching should run through the concept of core competence.English reading teaching is a top priority in high school English teaching,with a large proportion of class hours and content.Moreover,reading teaching is the foundation for learning listening,writing,and translation well.Aims to understand the implementation of English subject core competence in high school English reading classes by investigating the current situation of reading teaching in high schools.This study is based on the theory of constructivism and multiple intelligence.Through classroom observation and interviews with six senior one English teachers in a senior high school in Cangzhou City,and a questionnaire survey of one hundred and fifty-seven students in the school,this study uses SPSSAU to analyze the collected questionnaire data.lt aims to answer the following two questions:(1)What is the current situation of English reading teaching in senior high school under the core competence of English subject? What are the problems?(2)What are the causes of these problems?Through organizing and analysing the collected data,the following conclusions are drawn in this study:1.The current situation of the cultivation of English subject core competence in English reading teaching is not balanced(Mean value:4.03-2.35),and more emphasis is placed on the cultivation of language ability.The main problems are as follows:In the training of language ability,teachers attach importance to the teaching of basic language knowledge,inadequate training of discourse knowledge and language skills;in the cultivation of thinking quality,the cultivation of critical thinking and creative thinking is seriously insufficient;in terms of cultural awareness,inadequate understanding of cultural differences and cultivation of intercultural communication ability;in terms of learning ability,there is a lack of cultivation of learning emotion,learning planning,lack of learning resource.2.The main reasons for these problems are:(1)exam-oriented education(2)teachers’ teaching concept is solidified,and they have insufficient understanding of core competence(3)students’ basic knowledge level is poor.Through investigation,it can found that the implementation of high school English core competence is a systematic project that requires the joint cooperation of education authorities,schools,teachers,and students.Education departments and schools should build a new teaching evaluation system,teachers should increase their knowledge reserves,update teaching concepts,and implement student-centered quality education,enrich the teaching content and increase teaching activities,so as to realize that students can change passive learning into active learning in the classroom.Only in this way can the English subject core competency of high school be fully implemented.Finally,the author discusses the shortcomings of this study and prospects for future research. |
