In order to guarantee the normal teaching order,the government put forward the call of “suspended class,ongoing learning” in the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia in 2020 and implemented large-scale online teaching throughout the country,which was the first time in history.Before this,online teaching has been conducted mainly in higher education,adult education and distance education,and rarely in the basic education.Thus,the experience of online teaching in high school is very little,Therefore,the online teaching experience of senior high school English education is very little,and a lot of problems were discovered in this nationwide online teaching,especially the evaluation and feedback of teaching effect.The characteristics of online teaching highlight the importance of learning evaluation and evaluation feedback.It is of great significance to improve the quality of online teaching and learning effect to realize “Promoting learning by evaluation” by using multiple online learning evaluation methods.Based on the investigation of the learning evaluation methods used in English online teaching in high schools in Chifeng during the epidemic period,this study analyzed the effectiveness and shortcomings of these online evaluation methods.Finally,some suggestions on the use of online English learning evaluation in senior high school are put forward.This research uses the bibliographic method and the investigation method.the survey object is 6high schools’ 531 students and 94 teachers from Chifeng’s city and the county area in the Inner Mongolia.The aim is to answer three main research questions: 1.During the epidemic period,what are the online English learning evaluation in senior high schools in Chifeng? 2.How effective are these online learning evaluation methods? 3.What are the shortcomings of these online learning evaluation methods?The main findings are as follows: 1.On the whole,there are both summative evaluation and formative evaluation in the online English teaching in senior high schools in Chifeng,but summative evaluation is the main method and formative evaluation is the auxiliary method.The specific evaluation methods mainly include eight types,they are student self-evaluation and reflection,goal setting,peer evaluation,teacher evaluation,concept map evaluation,electronic portfolio evaluation,online performance data evaluation(Q & A,class tasks)and online learning data evaluation(homework scores,test scores).2.In the evaluation of online learning,students’ evaluation of the effect of online learning evaluation is lower than that of teachers.Among them,what was agreed as the best one by teachers and students is online performance data evaluation.Right behind it is online learning data evaluation and teacher evaluation.3.The disadvantages of online learning evaluation are single evaluation subject,lack of students’ participation,incomplete collection of learning information and lack of evaluation basis,which makes it difficult to reflect students’ learning effect.In addition,the online learning evaluation emphasizes summative evaluation rather than process evaluation,and the evaluation criteria do not fully consider the individual differences of students,which affects the evaluation results.In view of the above problems,this study puts forward some suggestions as follows.Firstly,teachers should change the concept of learning evaluation,use multiple learning evaluation methods and encourage multilevel evaluation according to the characteristics of online teaching.Secondly,students should be motivated to use multiple learning evaluation methods in the learning process and take the initiative to participate in the evaluation of their own learning process and results.Finally,based on the characteristics of online learning,parents should also actively participate in learning evaluation to play a good role as evaluation partners.
