Nowadays,the cultural exchanges between Laos and China are getting closer.The Lao people,as the main ethnic group in Laos,and the rice cultivation culture plays an important roles in the development of the national culture of Laos.For this reason,a deeper understanding of the rice cultivation culture of the Lao people is conducive to the cultural exchange between China and Laos,strengthening the mutual cultural trust between the two countries and building a China-Laos community with a shared future.Based on the research of the rice cultivation culture of the Lao people,this paper explores the rice cultivation culture contained in the folk customs,beliefs and literature of Lao people of Laos from multiple aspects,with the method of document analysis,investigation and interdisciplinary research,mainly using the theory of folklore,cultural anthropology and linguistics.After studying the folk customs of the Lao people,we know that the rice cultivation culture is abundant in the daily diet,folk festivals,living customs,farming customs and folk beliefs of the Lao people.The various rice-related rituals held by the Lao people are mostly purposed to pray for favorable weather and a good harvest of rice.Agricultural proverbs,which involves rice cultivation culture,still plays an important roles in the lives of the Lao people today.Many themes of Laos’ folklore has reflected the origins of the Lao people’ rice and the Lao people’s worship of the cattle.Today,these folk songs about the rice cultivation culture are still widely spreading in the lives of the Lao people.It can be seen that rice cultivation culture has been integrated into the lives and even blood of the Lao people,and has become an indispensable part of their lives.
