| Yu Hua’s novels contain rich aesthetic value and significance interpretation value,which provides many possibilities for rhetorical research.Throughout the research results of Yu Hua’s works,we can find that rhetorical research is a weak link.Metaphor,symbol,parody,repetition and other rhetorical phenomena in Yu Hua’s works have attracted the attention of researchers,but this attention only stops at the technical analysis level of traditional rhetoric,and there is little discussion on the creative intention behind the writer’s rhetorical choice and the rhetorical effect achieved.Therefore,it is very necessary to study Yu Hua’s novels by using modern rhetoric theory.This thesis takes the rhetorical phenomena such as language style,narrative technique,character shaping and rhetorical ethics of Yu Hua’s novels as the breakthrough point.Through the analysis of these phenomena,trying to explore the rhetorical intention of the author and the influence of the era context on the rhetorical choice of the writer,and then analyzes whether the rhetorical effect is realized by combining the whole text and the reader’s response.The first chapter analyzes the influence of hometown Haiyan and childhood life experiences on the language of Yu Hua’s novels.Born and raised in a small town in the south of China,the language of Yu Hua’s novels has obvious charm of south China and native nature in form and content.The special childhood experience and growing environment made his language show the parody of the discourse of the Cultural Revolution and the infatuation of violent rhetoric.The second chapter discusses how the novel realizes the control of distance through narrative techniques.Yu Hua’s five novels respectively use three main structures: nested,linear and parallel.Through the grasp of the novel structure and spatio-temporal mechanism,Yu Hua skillfully adjusts the distance between the author,narrator,characters and readers in terms of spatio-temporal,emotional,moral,cognitive and other aspects.The third chapter explains the rhetorical nature of characters in Yu Hua’s novels and the gains and losses of character shaping.The paper divides the characters in his novels into abstract characters and concrete characters.The choice of character types and the change of identity symbols serve the rhetorical needs of novels.The characters in Yu Hua’s works have the characteristic of simplification,which makes him gain and lose in character shaping.The fourth chapter discusses the rhetorical ethics of Yu Hua’s novels.Yu Hua’s rhetoric ethics has a process of evolution,which is finally expressed through the ethical relationship and value judgment in the novel.In contrast,Yu Hua’s novels in the 1990 s have clear moral standpoint and give people lofty spiritual power.However,in his works since the new century,especially in Brothers,the writer’s moral standpoint sometimes appears confused,which hinders the communication between readers and authors. |
