With the development of language teaching, language assessment has become more and more scientific. As a branch of language assessment, translation assessment mainly focuses on theoretical research.Few scholars combined translation teaching with translation assessment to discuss how to improve the quality of translation teaching.Testing and Assessment in Translation and Interpretation,co-edited by Claudia V.Angelelli and Holly E.Jacobson, combines translation assessment with empirical research and focuses on evaluation tools and methods in translation field. The material for this translation task was selected from chapter nine of this book. This report illustrated the background and significance of the translation task at first. Then,it analyzed the source text from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels, and listed the requirements of the entrusting party for the translation task. Before translation, some network resources were used to search for background information about the author, translation assessment and its influence on interpreting teaching and practice.Meanwhile, paper dictionaries and online dictionaries were chosen to verify personal names, place names, vocabularies and professional terms to ensure the accuracy of the target text.Besides, parallel texts like Test Evaluation on Translation Majors and Introduction to Sign Language Translation were selected and analyzed for improving translation quality. At the same time,a translation plan was formulated for completing the task on time eventually.Under the guidance of adaptation theory that was proposed by Jef Vershchueren, the translator completed the translation and made strict quality control by terminology verification, parallel texts reading,self-proofreading,peers‘ proofreading and entrusting party‘s feedback. In case analysis, under the guidance of adaptation theory, namely, adaptation to context, adaptation to structure, dynamic adaptation and salience of adaptation process, some difficulties in the process of translation were analyzed, including temporal context, spatial context, pronouns, terms, polysemy, nominalization, long and complex sentences, passive voice, cohesion and coherence. Finally, the report made a review and summary of the translation task.Through this translation practice, the translator deeply understood the necessity of translation assessment in teaching and practice and realized that the success of a translation task was determined by every stage in the process of translation. It is significant for the translator to choose appropriate strategies and skills to solve the difficulties in the translation and gain experience for related translation practices for the specific communicative purposes.
