As the carrier of the latest research achievements in various fields, academic works and their translation can help domestic scholars keep up with and even surpass foreign researches, which is of significant importance. Therefore, the study of academic translation has always been valuable. In view of this, this translation report will use the adaptation theory to analyze the process of translation practice, and take the Chinese translation of chapter four of The Struggle Over the Soul of Economics as an example to explore academic translation.Based on the analysis of the features of the original text and the difficulties in translation, the translator tries to solve the problems in translation under the guidance of the theory of adaptation proposed by Verschueren. In the translation report, the translator analyzes it from the perspective of contextual correlates of adaptation and structural objects of adaptation through the translation modification and comparative analysis by means of case study. In terms of contextual correlates of adaptation, the translator explores how the translation of academic texts should adapt to the context of the target language from the perspective of mental adaptation and social adaptation. In terms of structural objects of adaptation, the translator analyzes the text from lexical, syntactic and textual levels, discusses how to optimize the translation of academic texts, and puts forward corresponding translation strategies, such as conversion of parts of speech, conversion of voice, sentence structure reorganization, pronoun restoration, logical word omission, etc. In addition, the translation report briefly describes the dynamic process of adaptation and explains how the prominence of the translator’s consciousness in the adaptation process affects the translation. |
