| Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan 70 years ago,the two sides have embarked on practical cooperation and jointly developed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)project, which is a model and flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to further strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership between China and Pakistan. In this process,International Chinese Language Education has taken on the mission of promoting the teaching of Chinese language, spreading excellent Chinese culture and facilitating the exchange and mutual appreciation of civilisations.International Chinese Language Education is flourishing in Pakistan, and the demand for highly qualified teachers is increasing year by year. The cross-cultural adaptation ability of International Chinese Teachers in Pakistan has a direct impact on the quality of their work during their stay in Pakistan, and a study on the cross-cultural adaptation of this group is of great significance. While previous research on cross-cultural adaptation has been fruitful for students, research on International Chinese teachers is relatively weak. This paper uses Ward’s(1992)two-dimensional model of cross-cultural adaptation as the third dimension of cross-cultural adaptation for International Chinese Teachers in Pakistan. The data collected were analysed and collated using statistical methods such as descriptive statistical analysis, comparative analysis, independent sample t-test and analysis of variance(ANOVA),and SPSS statistical software. The survey found that the overall level of cross-cultural adaptation of International Chinese Teachers in Pakistan was relatively good, with the three dimensions of adaptation ranked from highest to lowest in order of teaching work adaptation, psychological adaptation and socio-cultural adaptation. The factors that significantly influenced the cross-cultural adaptation of International Chinese Teachers in Pakistan were: firstly, age and education in the demographic factors;secondly, intercultural strategies in the internal factors, the level of communication with colleagues and locals;and thirdly, teaching institutions, teaching time and social situation in the external factors.Based on the findings of this study, this paper proposes the following two suggestions for improving the intercultural adaptation skills of international Chinese teachers in Pakistan: first,in terms of teaching management, teaching institutions need to establish effective communication mechanisms and provide good support for work and life;second, teachers should develop intercultural awareness, improve their understanding of Pakistan and strengthen their own learning with an open and tolerant attitude. It is hoped that this study will provide some ideas for building a more open, inclusive and standardised international Chinese language education system in the new era. |
