A Report On Translation Of Urban Rail Transit Station Equipment(Excerpts) Based On The Principle Of "Faithfulness,Expressiveness And Closeness"

As an important part of building a country with strong transportation network,urban rail transit plays a key role in promoting the rapid development of China’s economy.This translation practice report will explore the application of the translation principle of“faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness” to guide the translation of technical texts of urban rail transit.The original text of this translation practice report is selected from Urban Rail Transit Station Equipment,and the first chapter is excerpted.Guided by the principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness”,this report analyzes various problems encountered in the process of translation,including the translation accuracy of proper nouns,the translation of professional formulas and complex sentences,and explores corresponding translation strategies and solutions to those problems.Firstly,it introduces the background,purpose and significance of technical translation of urban rail transit.After that,the translation task is described from preparation before translation,translation process and quality control.Then a case study is carried out to discuss how to improve the translation quality from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and text under the guidance of the principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness”.In the case study,the lexical level contains the translation of terms,proper nouns and polysemy;the syntactic level contains the translation of omitted content,voice and word order,and the textual level contains cohesion and coherence.The main findings of this report are as follows: first,the use of the principle of“faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness” can effectively improve the professionalism and readability of the translation.Second,the use of specialized dictionaries and parallel texts can improve the accuracy of the translation of rail transit terms and specialized vocabulary.Third,the translation of urban rail transit texts requires the comprehensive use of a variety of translation methods,including amplification,deletion,adjustment of word order,etc.,which can better ensure the professionalism of the translation.Fourth,for the translation of highly specialized texts such as Urban Rail Transit Station Equipment,the preparation of relevant professional knowledge and post translation editing are conducive to ensuring the quality of the translation.This translation practice is an attempt to apply the translation principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness” to the technical texts of urban rail transit.It can provide some references and suggestions for the translators of technical texts of urban rail transit in the future,and also promote the international exchange of China’s urban rail transit technologies.
