| Machine translation has a history of nearly 70 years. At present,an important trend in the development of machine translation is to adopt hybrid translation strategies to design translation systems that integrate various principles and technologies and provide targeted machine translation methods for different translation fields.Machine translation for patent documents is an important application of machine translation. In the summer of 2018,the author participated in the project of E-C Template Processing of Patent Texts in Jiangsu Science and Technology Translators Association. On the basis of describing the working mechanism of the template processing system, this report attempts to analyze the effect of this System and evaluate it through specific experiments. The working mechanism of the System is to extract English and Chinese parallel grammatical structures(i.e.a template)by identifying the constants and variants in the example sentences and setting variants attributes. The validity of the template needs to be verified by bilingual example sentences.Successful verification results indicate that the template can be used to complete the task of translating patent texts. This paper discusses the effects of variant attributes and grammatical structures of example sentences on template extraction. The experimental results show that incomplete variant attributes setting will greatly affect the success of template verification, while example sentences with simple sentence structures will largely lead to the failure of template extraction.Manual intervention plays a crucial role in the System. The innovation of this System lies in an integrated combination of machine translation and manual intervention. However, too much manual intervention reflects the inadequacy of automatic recognition performance. In addition, the poor quality of example sentences is often the reason for the unqualified translation templates. In short,to further improve the automatic processing ability of the System and optimize the quality of example sentences is the direction that designers should strive for. |
