A Report On Translating English Patent Documents Of Hybrid Industrial Vehicle

This report is on the basis of Patent Documents of Hybrid Industrial Vehicle which is a newly applied invention originated from the official website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov. Detailed web-side can be seen in Appendix A.) The writer tries to translate the integrated patent documents and the operation of key parts about hybrid industrial vehicles, hoping to form a better understanding of the translation of Patent Documents on Hybrid Industrial Vehicle from the macro and micro level. After that preparation, the translation of patent document on hybrid industrial vehicle is started. In this report, language features and translation difficulties in this patent are discussed. Based on the report, it was found that technical words and set expressions were largely adopted in this patent and the same with other patent documents, drawings are indispensable. The unified format makes it easier for translators to form a primary awareness and understanding to patent documents by reading certain parallel texts. But, being of great scientificity and preciseness, translation challenge is multiplied.Thus this report summarizes the concrete methods and strategies in dealing with the above difficulties from the levels of drawings reading, terms analysis and sentences translation. System dividing method for drawings reading, terms reference tables and synthetic method are adopted to solve problems above. Moreover, in this report Newmark's communicative translation theory is considered as the guidance which focuses on target readers' reaction, hoping to highlight the effect of translation; and collaboration with skilled people in the art is the main technical support that makes the translation precise and professional.
