Science fiction is an important literary genre, but it is rarely studied by Chinese academia, mainly due to the lack of developing soil for sci-fi.There are few famous Chinese sci-fi writers, few great works, and a relatively small number of sci-fi readers.Beginning in 2008,Liu Cixin’s sci-fi works the Three-Body trilogy appeared successively and won numerous awards. The English version of the first volume The Three-Body Problem won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Novel, and later,Death’s End,the English version of Si Shen Yong Sheng and the concluding volume to the Three-Body trilogy, won the 2017 Locus Award for Best Novel and was nominated for the 2017 Hugo Award, which successfully elevated Chinese sci-fi to a world level. The translation of the first and concluding volume has played a crucial role in gaining western recognition of the trilogy and brought the works many world awards.Through the study of the English translation by translator Ken Liu,the writer of the present study has found that the translation of female description in the original text is in line with the “hijacking” translation strategy of feminist translation theory. This thesis, exploring the “hijacking” in The Three-Body Problem and Death’s End from the perspective of feminism, has summarized three “hijacking” strategies used by Ken Liu: 1)neutralizing gender differences or deleting gender marks;2)softening or deleting descriptions with strong femininity;3)rewriting descriptions with discrimination against women.Feminist translation studies started late in China, and there are still many controversies about feminism and feminist translation in the academic circle.Although the research on gender under the guidance of feminist translation theory in this thesis is not intended or expected to greatly improve the present situation to a large extent,it may hopefully enrich researches on the text types of feminist translation and provide a new perspective for the English translation of other types of Chinese literary works in the future.
