Under the influence of feminist movement and cultural turn, feminist translation theory came into being. The theories they put forward mainly include three parts: the transformation of translator’s identity and status, the reshaping of translation faithfulness principle and the manifestation of gender awareness. In western countries, the studies of feminist translation theory have been closely intertwined with politics, while in China, the application of feminist translation theory has been often limited in literary translation. The selected materials of this translation practice are excerpts from The Girl In Her Teens written by Margaret Slattery. It’s a social science text with some narrative descriptions. The author,an American teacher of Sunday school, shared some true examples of girls around her,and specifically analyze the changes produced by girls in her teens in physical and mental aspect, daily life and social interaction,as well as possible reasons for these changes.Meanwhile, the author provided suggestions for parents about how to deal with their adolescent daughters.Based on feminist translation theory, this thesis analyzes some specific cases in the translation,to explain how to apply the three translation strategies proposed by Flotow—footnoting, supplementing and hijacking,in a way that displays the vivid image of girls in teens, introduces the author’s research results about girls’ behaviors and minds, and highlights the feminine consciousness hidden in the text. The thesis aims to probe into the applicability of feminist translation theory in the translation of social science texts, and provide a Chinese version material for domestic studies in sociology and psychology related to female.
