The Influence Of Truster’s Construal Level And Repair Strategy On Trust Repair In The Context Of Third-party Evaluation

Trust is the bridge of interpersonal communication,and the violation of trust will damage the trust relationship between the two parties.To repair the damaged trust,the violating party needs to take some measures to repair the trust relationship between the two parties.Research on trust restoration mainly focuses on the perspective of the violating party and rarely discusses it from the perspective of individual differences in trustees,and rarely involves the violating party,the trustee,and the third party at the same time in one study.Therefore,based on previous studies,this research explores trust restoration from the perspectives of the third party,the relying party,and the violating party,and at the same time compares the differences in the trust restoration effects of people with different construal levels under different restoration strategies.This research follows the classic research paradigm of trust,namely,the trust game(investment game),and takes competency violation and integrity violation as experimental scenarios to explore the influence of trust victims with different construal levels behind the trust violations and the influence of third-party evaluations.The effect of trust restoration in the face of two different restoration strategies of compensation and punishment adopted by individuals who violate trust.The research is divided into two parts: Research one explores the difference in trust restoration effects of relying on parties with different construal levels under the two strategies of compensation and restoration under different violation situations,namely,competence and integrity violations.The second study is divided into two experiments based on the first study,respectively,to explore whether the trust restoration effect produced by the trusting party with different construal levels in the face of compensation and punishment under two different types of violation scenarios will be affected by third-party evaluation.The results of Study 1 show that the main effect of explanatory level is significant.The interpretation level and the restoration strategy have a significant interaction.Further simple main effect analysis shows that the trust restoration effectIIof the truster with a low explanation level under punishment is better than the restoration effect under compensation,while the trustee with a high explanation level trusts in the face of financial compensation.The repair effect is better than the trust repair effect during punishment.The interaction between interpretation level,repair strategy and violation type is significant.Further simple analysis of the effect found that in the type of integrity violations,the trust restoration effect of the low-interpretation level truster under the punishment method is better than the compensation method,and the high-level interpretation level truster is just the opposite.In the case of ability violations,individuals with high and low construal levels show that the effect of trust repair under compensation is better than punishment.The results of Experiment 1 of Study 2 show that in the situation of ability violation,the main effect of repair type is significant,which is manifested in that compensation has a better effect on trust repair than punishment.The main effects of interpretation level and third-party evaluation are not significant.The results of Experiment 2 show that in the context of integrity violations,the interaction of the third-party evaluation type,repair strategy,and interpretation level is significant.Further simple analysis of the effects found that in the context of negative evaluation,individuals with low construal levels are less likely to be affected by the punishment strategy.The effect of trust restoration is better than the compensation strategy;the trust restoration effect of individuals with high interpretation level under compensation is better than the trust restoration effect under punishment.In the context of positive evaluation,there is no significant difference in the trust restoration effects of subjects with high and low construal levels under compensation and punishment strategies.The research mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)The level of construal of the trustee will produce different cognitive attitudes to the two types of trust violation situations,economic compensation,and punishment restoration strategies,which in turn affects the restoration of interpersonal trust.In the process of restoring the trust relationship,the level of construal and situational of the trust victim should be considered in order to achieve the best trust restoration effect.(2)Negative information from the outside world will affect the trust level of the trusted parties,aggravate the undesirable consequences of the trust violation event itself,and increase the difficulty of repairing damaged interpersonal trust relationships.(3)After the trust is damaged,different remedial measures should be taken according to the different construal levels of the trust victims.For the victims with high construal level,the economic compensation strategy can be given priority,while for the victims with low construal level In the case of a damaged trust relationship,self-punishment remedies can be prioritized.
