This translation report is an excerpt from Children’s Literature in the Classroom:Engaging Lifelong Readers(excerpts),written by Diane M.Barone.Through sharing children’s literature works,this book focuses on the classroom teaching of children’s literature.Chapters 1,2 of this book are used as the practice of English-Chinese translation,with the aim of providing some suggestions for future researchers and translators to explore the translation of such texts.This book is an academic work.In the process of translation,the top consideration in its translation is faithful,therefore,Nida’s theory of functional equivalence is chosen as the guidance.At the same time,according to the type of the text,the audience groups change the translation skills,so that the readers have the same reading experience as the original readers.In the process of translation,the author mainly adopts the case study method,combining the functional equivalence theory with the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and discourse.For the translation of vocabulary,the author uses the method of amplification,omission as well as conversion.For the translation of sentence,the author mainly uses the method of division,reordering and voice transformation.For the translation of discourse,the author adopts the method of cohesion and coherence.After finishing the translation,the author conducts an evaluation of the quality of the translation.Through this practice,the author draws the following conclusions.Firstly,this practice involves professional knowledge of education,therefore,only a full understanding of the professional knowledge of pedagogy can ensure the quality of the translation to a certain extent.Secondly,through this translation practice,the theory of functional equivalence serves as a good guideline in the translation of educational texts.Finally,using simple and easy sentences to express the meaning of the work vividly,and making the translation concise and coherent so as to be better accepted by readers. |
