Abstract/Summary:
In the history of Western art,the body has always been one of the important creative themes of artists,but the female body has long been viewed as a gaze object.With the rise of the women’s liberation movement,the consciousness of women’s subjectivity slowly awakened.With the rise of civil rights protests and radicalism after the AIDS epidemic,queer theory rose and grew at the end of the last century.Some artists began to use their own methods Minority groups speak up.Many queer artists take marginalization as a position to create self-narratives that resist mainstream understanding of gender,race,class,and sexuality.Photography,portraits,installations,sculptures and collages have all become their artistic creation forms,with diverse and eclectic styles.They challenge the dualism of mind a nd body,blur the boundaries of gender,deconstruct the gender norms in the heterosexual sys tem,and their identities become fluid with the influence of society.In these artworks,the bo dy is used directly or indirectly as a symbol,forming the iconic language symbol of queer art,and the body has subsequently become the main battlefield of this battle without gunpowder.The power of art lies in allowing two people who are strangers to each other to have a dialogu e through art.Artists’ exploration of marginalization of identity,gender,race,class,etc.,and c hallenges to mainstream culture,through the medium of the body,can often enable The audie nce felt the impact of the work more straightforwardly.Therefore,this article will sort out,analyze and research the body symbols and their applications from the perspective of queer theory,hoping to make valuable research on the development of queer art.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background and significance of the selected topic,and roughly explains the current research status at home and abroad,and the research methods of this article.The second chapter will sort out the clues of queer culture in contemporary art.First,it will give an overview of queer theory in the post-modern context,and then talk about the influence of queer culture on contemporary art.The third chapter is to classify the use of body symbols in queer art.First,explain the body symbols from the perspective of semiotics,and then divide the application of body symbols in contemporary queer art into four categories: "separated body" and "metaphor" In each category,the author will use corresponding examples of queer art to illustrate and roughly analyze these cases.Chapter 4 will introduce the practice of body symbols in queer art in personal creation,mainly from the practice of language and atmosphere and the transformation and expression of body symbols in creation.
