Abstract/Summary:
Leo Tolstoy has been exploring the meaning of life, personal morality and the perfection of social ethics all his life. There are a lot of contents about ethics in his thoughts, but he has not left any relevant monographs. This also makes his ethica l thoughts disorganized and disorganized. The purpose of this paper is to systematically sort out Leo Tolstoy’s ethical thought system and explore the inherent logical relationship between his ethical thoughts. The view of life is the basis of Tolstoy’s ethical thought.First of all,Tolstoy affirms that life itself is meaningful and believes that real life creates life through labor;secondly,he points out that it is reasonable to pursue the happiness of individual life and the happiness of all human beings.it is the embodiment of "life is the pursuit of happiness";finally,he believes that to achieve the meaning of life, that is,the pursuit of happiness,is to believe in God,that is,the love and supreme goodness in the heart. The view of good and evil is the core of Tolstoy’s ethical thought. In Tolstoy’s view,in order to realize his moral ideal and pursue the happiness of all mankind, first of all,the cultivation of good should be carried out through individual moral self-improvement,and secondly, the belief and atmosphere of not fighting evil with violence should be formed.so as not to lead to a vicious circle of violence and evil,so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating evil. Finally, the thought of fraternity is the key to resolve the conflict between good and evil, because whether it is to achieve the cultivation of individual good,or to achieve the purpose of eliminating evil, the key lies in the practice of the idea of fraternity. The concept of happiness is the goal of Tolstoy’s ethical thought. In Tolstoy’s view,it is reasonable for individuals to pursue the happiness of their own life and the happiness of all human beings, that is,individual love and love for God are not opposed to each other. He believes that it is not enough for an individual to have a pure spirit that transcends everything, and the essence of being a human being should be to attach importance to one’s own existence. Then, only by combining the love of God and the love of the earth can the individual be truly happy.
