The Huizhou ancestral hall is a typical representative of Huizhou residential architecture.Its architectural decoration deeply reflects the folk customs,literati elegance,the aesthetics of Huizhou merchants,and the creation of Huizhou craftsmen.The Tangyue Women’s Temple,located in Huizhou,is a significant model.It not only reflects on the above characteristics,but also indicates a unique architectural form with a distinct pattern theme.Based on the era background and social environment,this thesis studies the brick carvings which focus on their aesthetic characteristics,and the causes of its artistic form,aiming to explore the unique value of the traditional brick and stone carvings.Finally,this thesis derived a proposed idea that is used for the protection and the development of Tangyue Women’s Temple.The thesis is mainly divided into four parts: the first part,from the geographies and culture,analysis the establishment of the Tangyue Women’s Temple,and explores the influence factors of feudal patriarchal ethics,Chengzhu Neo-Confucianism,filial piety culture,Huizhou merchants,etc.The second part studies the brick,stone carving,and carving patterns.The research is carried out from creative themes,composition forms,and expression methods.Research explores the formation factors: traditional aesthetics,the art forms in Hui Zhou,and Xin’an Neo-Confucianism,etc.In the third part,the Tangyue Women’s Ancestral Hall is comparing with Dunben Church and Wu’s Ancestral Hall on the North Shore,resulting in the forms of the brick and stone carvings of women’s ancestral halls in terms of architectural shapes and patterns.The research evaluates a unique aesthetic value of Tangyue Women’s Hall which has a special cultural connotation.The fourth part studies the protection of brick and stone carving and discovers a developing method for the Huizhou’s traditional brick and stone carving art.Base on the policies and the designing progress,a strategy is proposed for the restoration,protection,and development of masonry carvings in Tangyue Women’s Temple.Furthermore,it provides new ideas for the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.
