A Survey On MTI Students’ Translation Competence

A questionnaire was designed in this report on the basis of market needs and issued to 213 MTI students at technological universities.It aims to offer suggestions to improve MTI students’ translation competence at technological universities.The survey involves six aspects of translation competence,that is bilingual sub-competence,extralinguistic sub-competence,translation knowledge sub-competence,instrumental sub-competence,strategy sub-competence,and psycho-physiological components;And 30 pieces of recruitment information were also collected for comparative analysis.Because the author is studying in a technological university,knowing more about this type of university.And the author aims to make a contribution for MTI cultivation in her university.Considering those factors,the author chooses the MTI students at technological universities as the respondents.The result shows that there is still a long way to go for MTI students to become proficient in translation competence.Thus it should be greatly improved to meet the market needs.The author puts forward such suggestions as optimizing curricula,getting market consciousness and enhancing school-enterprise cooperation to cultivate high-quality translation talents.This report aims to perfect MTI cultivation in technological universities,thus making MTI graduates more competitive on the job market.
