| As Brave as You is a juvenile literary work for African-American written by Jason Reynolds,an American writer.It is also a literary adventure themed in courage and growth.Therefore,this book involves lots of dialogues in Black English with a remarkable American juvenile style.Since the target readers of this book are children from 10 to 15 years old,translators need to fully reserve the original characteristics of juvenile language after fully understanding the language and cognitive level of teenagers,which is exactly the key point of this translate work.The report takes the concept of “the Horizon of Expectation” in Receptional Aesthetics as the theoretical guidance and analyzes the translation process from three perspectives of vocabulary,figures of speech and discourse.At the lexical level,the author applies the Transliteration and Annotation methods to translate the cultural-loaded words and self-created words in the text.At the same time,the style of calligraphy method and the dialectic hibernation method are also used to reflect the unique phonetic characteristics of Black English.Moreover,the principle of equivalence translation is followed by the author to convey the humor and romance of the novel.To add up,the Addition,Omission,Combination and Division methods are taken at the textual level,so as to ensure the fluency of the translation and lives up to the expectation of teenagers.After practicing the translation,the author has grasped the linguistic features and styles of juvenile literary works.Besides,the key points and difficulties in the translation of Juvenile Literature have been clarified.Most importantly,it also provides the perspective of “the Horizon of Expectation”for the further research on translating black literary works. |
