Improving proficiency in segmental expression has always been a major problem in Chinese language teaching.In 2017,the professional teaching team from Chinese Academy of BFSU introduced the "Production-oriented Approach" proposed by Prof.Qiufang Wen to the theoretical system of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.This foreign language theory places great emphasis on improving second language learners’ability to construct chapters and segmental expression.This study takes quasi-intermediate Chinese learners based on Production-oriented Approach as the research object and selects the segmented expression material produced by students in stage of Motivating and Producing at the beginning,middle,and end of a semester.This study also applies qualitative analysis and quantitative statistics to examine learners’ segmental expressions from both the parataxis and hypotaxis of the sentence group.Finally,identify the effects and processes of the Production-oriented Approach on the segmental expressions of oral learners at level of quasi-intermediate Chinese language learning.According to the study results,in the perspective of sentence group hypotaxis,learners’use of sentence group hypotaxis was better in Producing than they were in Motivating at all three different periods of this semester,indicating the effectiveness of class enabling training.The partly comparative phase data showed that learners used sentence group hypotaxis more frequently and the correctness rate increased at the end of the semester,with better use of referential expression and number phrases to follow sentence groups.However,there is still room for improvement in the way learners use conjunction words to follow sentence groups.From the perspective of sentence group parataxis,the overall data indicated that there was a significant increase in times which learners used the three means of sentence group parataxis in Producing,specifically the three means of deductive and inductive method to develop sentence group semantic,spatio-temporal change method to develop sentence group semantic,and comparing and contrasting method to develop sentence group semantic.Partly comparative data showed that,compared with the beginning of the semester,learners used the deductive and inductive method and spatio-temporal change method to develop sentence group semantic more frequently in both stage of Motivating and Producing at the end of this semester.This indicates that learners have become more logical and specific in their segmental expressions after this semester’s training.Overall,learners were more motivated to express themselves in oral language and there was a significant improvement in the use of sentence group combination.This study analyses the main reasons for learners’progress as follows:1.The teaching process and teaching objectives of oral Chinese classes based on Production-oriented Approach.2.The two main lines,sentence group parataxis and sentence group hypotaxis flow through the quasi-intermediate oral Chinese textbook based on Production-oriented Approach.3.The guidance and assessment of the teacher.4.Selection and treatment of teaching resources for the Motivating.
