| This report takes the C-E translation of the academic paper ‘Assessing Influence Mechanism of Green Utilization of Agricultural Wastes in Five Provinces of China through Farmers’ Motivation-Cognition-Behavior’ as the study object.Coupled with Chesterman’s translation strategies and some selected translation cases in the paper, this report aims to discuss the application of Chesterman’s translation strategies to the translating of informative texts, especially social science papers. The academic paper is the informative text proposed by Newmark in his text typology, which attaches great importance to the content and the information. Therefore,in order to faithfully and clearly convey the information of the texts, the translator needs to consider how to choose appropriate translation strategies in terms of syntax, semantics and pragmatics, thus enhancing the acceptance and readability of the translation. At the same time,it is also necessary to take into account the requirements and norms of writing academic papers. The material selected in this report is a social science paper, characterized by many translation difficulties, such as professional vocabularies,run-on sentences, long and difficult sentences, and implicit logic. However,Chesterman’s translation strategies provide practical solutions for translation practice at the micro level and are indeed instrumental in the translation of social science papers. Therefore, some strategies such as transposition, unit shift, sentence, abstraction change, explicitness change are applied into the translation practice, resolving many translation difficulties mentioned above. |
