A Study Of Du Guangting’s Official Documents

Du Guangting created many literary works in his life,including many official documents.As a famous Taoist scholar in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties,the academic circles paid great attention to Du Guangting’s religious contributions and literary works,but his official documents did not attract the favor scholars.Based on the broad social reality,Du Guangting created two kinds of official documents:Taoist and secular.In addition,his official documents are written in parallel phrase,which makes his official documents have a unique aesthetic in both content and form.Therefore,the study of Du Guangting’s official documents can not only understand the social life at that time,but also understand Du Guangting’s ideological connotation and unique art of official document creation more comprehensively.This paper intends to comb and analyze Du Guangting’s official documents from four aspects.The first chapter combs Du Guangting’s life experience and analyses official document creation.Du Guangting’s official documents include Taoist official documents and secular official documents.Taoist official documents,namely Taoist Qingci,are used in Taoist Rites.According to their functions,they can be divided into five categories: surpassing the dead,thanking the gods,praising the fairyland,pacifying the gods and praying for blessings.Du Guangting has 57 secular official documents,which were mainly written in Biao text.According to its functions,it can be divided into six categories: request,gratitude,congratulations,offering,consolation and fasting.The second chapter based on Du Guangting’s official documents,combined with his theoretical works,discusses the Taoist thought of valuing life,the ethical thought of worship kindness,and the theory of governing a country with quiet and inaction.The third chapter summarizes the aesthetic orientation of Du Guangting’s official documents.On the one hand,Du Guangting follows the stylized writing of official documents;on the other hand,he used gorgeous rhetoric,the language parallel prose combination and rich allusions to show his literary talent and unique aesthetic tendency.The fourth chapter discusses the value of Du Guangting’s official documents.Du Guangting’s official documents describe the people’s livelihood and the real social situation at that time.At the same time,Du Guangting reformed Qing CI on the basis of predecessors,which not only expanded the scope of application of Qing Ci,enhanced the performance function of Qing Ci,but also promoted the propaganda of Taoism.Therefore,Du Guangting’s official documents have historical values,literary values and religious value.
