The world today is in a period of rapid development and profound changes.As China is getting closer to the center of the world stage,China’s “aphasia” has gradually attracted the attention of national leaders and many scholars.How to tell Chinese stories well,spread Chinese voices well,and enhance China’s right to speak on the world stage has become the top priority.The source text for this translation practice report is excerpted from Chapters 8 and 9 of Analysing Political Discourse:Theory and Practice by Paul Chilton.The author graduated from Oxford University and is a well-known scholar in the field of critical discourse analysis.He is currently a professor of linguistics at the University of East Anglia and editor-in-chief of the journal Language and Politics.The content of this book is rigorous and orderly.It combines theory with practice and introduces the three dimensions of discourse space in detail from the perspective of critical discourse analysis.It is a very typical academic work of high translation value.The “discourse space theory” proposed in this book has placed discourse in the“world of discourse” constructed on the basis of self or group ideology,which provides a new framework for the study on China’s foreign political discourse.The theory can also provide theoretical guidance on how to promote China’s foreign political discourse legalization.This report is divided into five chapters: introduction,translation theory review,translation process description,translation case analysis and translation practice summary.The author mainly analyzes the key points and difficulties encountered in translation practice from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.At the lexical level,for professional terms and culturally loaded words,the author mainly uses literal translation,free translation,augmented translation to reproduce the original language form and language style.At the sentence level,it analyzes the translation methods of passive sentences and long difficult sentences,and tries to faithfully reproduce the original ideas on the basis of clarifying the logic of the original text.At the discourse level,combined with the differences in English and Chinese language thinking and expression sequence,from the perspective of discourse cohesion and coherence,the techniques and methods of constructing discourse are effectively analyzed.In this translation practice,“Skopos theory” has a positive guiding significance for the English-Chinese practice of “Political Discourse Analysis”,and the translation fills the gap in the Chinese translation of this monograph.Using “Skopos theory” to guide the practice of English-Chinese translation of discourse space theory monographs is beneficial to expand the application scope of“Skopos theory”.Finally,it is hoped that the translation can provide a reference for future political discourse research,and play a certain role in promoting the country’s foreign political discourse and discourse dissemination.
