The corpus of this thesis is based on a tour guide interpreting service provided by the author for an Englishman who has worked in Beijing for many years. The main place of this visit is the “ancient China” exhibition hall of the National Museum of China. The rich historical relics in this exhibition hall can allow visitors to understand ancient China systematically,so as to spread Chinese culture well. This thesis analyzes the problems existing in the translation from the perspective of contextual adaptation. The theory of contextual adaptation was put forward by the famous Belgian linguist Verschueren. It emphasizes that the process of using language is a process of continuously selecting. In the process of interpreting,in order to make the audience clearly understand the meaning expressed by the speaker, the interpreter should choose proper expressions in order to solve the understanding obstacles caused by cultural differences. In terms of communicative context, this thesis mainly analyzes the problems existing in the interpreting process from the social, psychological and physical levels, and illustrates how to use contextual adaptation theory to improve the quality of translation and make the audience understand the speaker’s meaning well. From the perspective of contextual adaptation theory, this thesis reflects on the author’s practice of tour guide interpreting, hoping to provide some new perspectives for the study of tour guide interpreting and provide some experience and inspiration for the beginners of interpreting. |
