A Report On The Guide Interpreting At Xinyang Museum

From the perspective of Skopos Theory,this paper mainly researches cross-cultural communication barriers encountered in the process of Xinyang Museum guide interpretation,such as the clear difference in both Chinese and English language,large cultural load on cultural relics,the insufficiency of narrator's introduction about some relevant background,the limited time for interpreter's reaction,etc.Then,it proposes the translation methods of interpretation.This paper is based on sufficient pre-task preparation,the actual interpreting practice,timely summary after interpretation and the author's own experience,so as to achieve the following goals: one is to promote Xinyang culture's “going out”,providing certain reference for the translation of Xinyang tourism documentation;and the other is to explore the appropriate translation methods according to the characteristics of the tour guide interpretation,such as time urgency and mobility,in order to promote cross-cultural communication ability and interpreting ability.This report mainly adopts specific case analysis,pointing out the specific translation methods and factors which affect the cross-cultural communication.After getting the interpreting task,the author actively searches for all sorts of relevant information about the museum guide interpretation,and gets them well-organized.In addition,a detailed schedule of the whole interpretation task is set up,so is the emergency plan for the possible problems and difficulties in the process of interpreting practice.Moreover,the author also conducts on-the-spot investigations of Xinyang Museum and has repeated communication with the customer,which makes great contribution to the success of this interpretation task.Finally,through summarizing the experiences of the interpreting task,the author points out the matters which the guide interpreters are supposed to pay attention to in the future interpreting work and hopes that they can benefit from the summary of the museum interpreting experience and the study of tour guide interpretation work.The author also expects that more guide interpreters can gain preliminary understanding of interpretation tasks related to museum and master the effective methods to solve the problems which may arise in the museum guide interpretation,which will lay a certain foundation for the future intercultural communication in a much smoother and more effective way.
