A Report On The Guide Interpreting In Changchun Museum

This report focuses on the guide interpreting service provided by the author for a Ukrainian who has studied in Changchun for an extended period.The target place is Changchun Museum,covering two exhibition halls and some display boards.The museum’s extensive collection offers visitors a profound understanding of the city’s cultural heritage,ranging from its ancient origins to the modern development.Before interpreting,the author engaged in thorough preparation,which involved reading introductions,gathering parallel texts,and compiling relevant terminology.During the pre-task preparation phase,the author researched background information on the official website and conducted on-the-spot research to handle any unforeseen challenges.In the post-task period,the author transcribed the audio into text and analyzed the difficulties encountered during interpreting.After the assignment,the author applied Adaptation Theory to analyze the text,considering linguistic context,situational context,and cultural context.In the linguistic context,the author categorized the difficulties into two types,namely polysemy at the lexical level and long sentence reconstruction at the syntactic level.In the situational context,the author found it hard to deal with communication based on customer’s knowledge reserves and the style selection of the interpreting.In the cultural context,the difficulties in interpreting focus on the interpreting of four-character idioms and dialects.While analyzing the issues,the author employed Adaptation Theory as a theoretical framework and put forth appropriate solutions to enhance the interpreting process.Methods such as addition,explanation,and omission were utilized to optimize the guide interpreting.Following the completion of the practice,the author conducted a self-evaluation,with the intention of offering valuable insights to future guide interpreters who will work in similar situations.
