Since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, new types of Internet crimes have been increasing in China, among which telecommunications and network fraud is recognized as the most representative type.Local public security bureaus have made every effort to crack down on crimes of telecommunications and network fraud despite the impact of the epidemic ever since 2020.Since many foreign students are not so proficient in Chinese, they are likely to fall victims to such fraud and thus they are regarded as a group badly in need of protection against such fraud.Against this background,on August 7th,2021,the author was entrusted by two foreign students of Jiamusi University to participate in the online meeting on Prevention of Telecommunications and Network Fraud and worked as a consecutive interpreter for a police officer from Jiamusi Public Security Bureau.Based on this practice, the author wrote this reflective practice report. In this report, the author focuses on the practical application of the reformulation strategy in consecutive interpreting.According to Gile’s Interpretive Theory, information reformulation means that the interpreter has to decode the wording of the original and reformulate it through comprehension and memory to achieve the production of the target language. It mainly consists of two phases, namely comprehension and reproduction. However,in this interpreting practice, the author encountered some problems in reformulating the information, namely, information loss and misinterpretation, logical confusion as well as structural disorder. In order to solve the above problems, the author puts forward the following corresponding strategies under the guidance of schema theory:firstly, enhancing short-term memory by constructing schemata;secondly, making logic explicit through schemata-aided anticipation;thirdly, improving note-taking through activating related schemata. The author believes that the above three strategies are effective because of two reasons:firstly, the comprehension of the input information is achieved with the help of schemata stored in the interpreter’s mind so as to help the interpreter anticipate, infer and remember the information;secondly, the reproduction of the source language is based on the existing schemata which possess the function of“deep processing”to realize the recognition, reservation and reformulation of the input information.Through this interpreting practice, the author has got a deeper understanding of the process and application of reformulation in consecutive interpreting. It is sincerely hoped that by analyzing the guiding significance of schema theory for information reformulation in consecutive interpreting, this report can be of some help to other MTI students and interpreters, especially in improving their listening comprehension,short-term memory and reproduction competence in interpreting practice.
