| With the rapid integration and development of the global economy, the increasingly close economic exchanges between China and foreign countries have provided interpreters with a large number of job opportunities.A qualified translator needs to review and reflect after the interpretation work is completed,in order to promptly identify and solve problems.Upon recommendation from a friend, the author was fortunate enough to serve as an interpreter for an online business conference on July 20,2022.The theme of this conference is international logistics of goods, and the participants are staff from the logistics management department of BMW in Germany and a Chinese car agent. In this meeting, the author provided consecutive interpretation services for two spokespersons from BMW in Germany and a spokesperson from the Chinese agent. This article provides a detailed record of the author’s online interpretation task, including task preparation, interpreting process, and assessment.By transcribing the audio files of this consecutive interpretation and taking into account the feedback from the client, the author has identified three main problems in this interpretation practice: information loss, misinterpretation, and structural disorder. In solve to the above issues, under the guidance of Eugene A.Nida’s theory of Functional Equivalence, the author analyzed the interpretation activity from three main criteria:information equivalence, cultural equivalence, and readers’ response.Specific countermeasures were proposed: improving interpretation notes to reduce information loss, increasing task preparation to avoid misinterpretation, and reconstructing language logic based on readers’ response. The author hopes that the analysis and improvement strategies for the three typical interpretation problems mentioned above can provide inspiration and assistance for other translators, especially novice translators,to carry out conference interpretation work. |
