A Report On The E-C Translation Of Translation And Practice Theory （Excerpts） ——Translation Of Parallel Structures In The Academic Text

This translation report is based on the translation of Translation and Practice Theory which is an academic text published in 2021.The author Maeve Olohan introduces the practical theory and three elements of practice including materials,competence and meaning.The third chapter is chosen as the translation material,mainly introducing the bodies and material entities respectively.Parallel structures are a common language phenomenon in English texts and they are mainly composed of two or more ideas in a sentence with the same grammatical and functional effects.Due to the differences in sentence structure and language expression between the Chinese and English languages,parallel structures brought many difficulties and challenges to the translator in the process of translation.Therefore,this report takes the translation of parallel structures as the research object.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory and based on the classification of parallel structures,the translation techniques of addition,conversion,following the original syntactic order,reinventing sentences structures,combination and repetition are used to translate parallel structures so as to ensure the accuracy and readability of the target text.The translator expects that this report will provide a certain reference to translation research and practice of parallel structures in the academic text.
