Abstract/Summary:
There are many reasons for the change of any artistic style. The transformation process from representational art to expressive art is complex. The formation and development of modern art are influenced by historical conditions, the change of aesthetic thoughts, and the driving force of artists’ personal exploration of new possibilities. The emergence of Impressionism at the end of the 18 th century represented the beginning of the end of traditional Western painting and sculpture, marking the germination of modern art.Since then, art began to transform from representation to expression, until the formation of modern art and the rise of modern abstract art, this process is long.First of all, from the perspective of reproduction and expression in art, this paper discusses the origin of the theory of artistic imitation, artistic reproduction and artistic expression,as well as the artistic characteristics and forms of imitation art, reproduction art and expression art,in order to clarify the differences and development logic between the three.Secondly, through the analysis of the painting concept of classical art,to compare the difference between reproduction art and imitation art,and discuss the process and reasons of the transformation of art from imitation to reproduction.Through the analysis of the principles of impressionism and the methods of impressionism, this paper illustrates the significance of impressionism to the birth of modern art. Finally, from painting to the discussion of early modern sculpture, through the analysis of impressionism and post-impressionism sculpture, explain the difference between it and imitative classical sculpture. This paper discusses Rodin, who plays a bridge between traditional sculpture and modern sculpture, and demonstrates Rodin’s important role in modern sculpture.Until Broncusi, the pioneer of modern sculpture. The thesis aims to discuss the transformation process and reasons of modern sculpture from representation to expression,as well as the changes of aesthetic thoughts involved in the transformation process, until the emergence of modern abstract sculpture art.Through the analysis and demonstration of the aesthetic theory of abstract sculpture, this paper summarizes the characteristics and differences of the two development stages of modern abstract sculpture, figurative abstract sculpture and non-figurative abstract sculpture. After the above argumentation, the conclusion of this paper is that, since the emergence of Impressionism, western modern art has begun to shift from representation to expression, from the traditional three-dimensional visual illusion art to two-dimensional planar art, while sculpture is no longer faithful to the traditional anatomy and is freed from the bondage of human body.Gradually divorced from nature, art began to express the inner world of the subject from the external reality.Modern abstract sculpture art also came into being,in more mature abstract sculpture even completely excluded representation, isolated from the external reality and the work of the connection.
