| Modernity centered on instrumental rationality is faced with the primary problem of lack of meaning, and as the main aspect of modernity,“dispelling myths with rationality” should be responsible for it.“Demythologization” and“disenchantment” cause the opposition between rationality and myth.Myth has been bullied and suppressed, and its legitimacy needs to be defended. This paper aims to reflect on mythology from the perspective of cultural philosophy.By returning to the beginning of Greek philosophy, this paper explores the philosophical thoughts of the philosophers of the early four schools in ancient Greece and Socrates, and explores the relationship between these thoughts and Greek mythology. This paper discusses the inheritance and continuation of the beginning of Greek philosophy to Greek mythology from three aspects: seeking explanation for empirical phenomena, establishing order and continuity for the real world and human life, and endowing meaning and value to individuals’ limited and uncertain life. This paper illustrates the characteristics of mythic consciousness as presented in Greek mythology and the way it has shaped Western philosophy and culture. The pursuit of transcendence, continuity, and value makes mythic consciousness shine even when it is obscured, which pointed out that there is no leap between myth and rationality, they go hand in hand and complement each other. |
