| English,as an international language,plays a vital role in all aspects of politics,economy and culture.The Ministry of Education also regards the opening of English courses in primary schools as an important part of the basic education’s curriculum reform in the early 21 st century.As a second language,English not only plays an instrumental role,but also plays an important role in cultivating pupils’ thinking ability and humanistic quality.Primary school English is the basic stage of English learning.With the growth of students’ age,the physiological and psychological characteristics of primary school senior students have changed greatly compared with those younger students.This puts forward new challenges to teachers of English.How to effectively play the role of classroom as the main position of English teaching and improve classroom management ability is an issue that teachers need to think about at present.In order to understand the current situation of seniors’ English classroom management,this study selects 312 seniors and 5 teachers from one Tianjin primary school for an empirical study.The results show that the existing problems are: teachers pay less attention to classroom environment management;they emphasize more on knowledge transfer in the aspect of teaching management;they accumulate some experience in problem behavior management,but lack scientific theoretical guidance.Combined with the research and analysis,the main possible reasons are: teachers’ outdated classroom management concept,teaching management ability to be improved,and lack of theoretical support;the school lacks emphasis on campus environment,discipline construction,relevant training,in-depth grasp of policies,and effective teacher assessment and incentive mechanism;senior students’ physical and psychological characteristics change and the influence of previous out of school training.In order to improve the current situation of English classroom management of seniors in primary schools,it is suggested the following three aspects: first,teachers should update their concept of classroom management,improve teaching management ability and adhere to lifelong learning.Next,primary schools should pay attention to discipline construction,strengthen school-based teaching and research,and establish effective reward mechanism.At last,the education authority shall conduct in-depth investigations on the front-line schools and give appropriate training and guidance. |
