A Study Of Xunzi’s Epistemological Thought In The Perspective Of The Reconstruction Of Rites And Music

Xunzi was a famous thinker and one of the most important representatives of the Confucian school of thought.In the past,scholars have mostly focused on human nature,the concept of heaven and man,or the ritual and music system,but relatively few have studied Xunzi’s epistemological thought.Xunzi’s epistemological thought is an important part of Xunzi’s thought,and it is of great significance to the development of Confucianism and political practice.Throughout Xunzi’s book,the concept of ritual is present throughout.As an important part of Xunzi’s thought,Xunzi’s epistemological ideas are also inextricably linked to rites.To explore Xunzi’s epistemological thought in the perspective of the reconstruction of rites and music,we firstly outline the historical background and theoretical sources of Xunzi’s epistemological thought with the attitude of "knowing people and discussing the world",so as to have a deeper grasp of the inner logic and basic vein of Xunzi’s epistemological thought,and then systematically analyse the origin between Xunzi’s epistemological thought and the reconstruction of rites and music.On the basis of this,we will analyse the origins of Xunzi’s epistemological thought and the reconstruction of ritual and music.On this basis,we further explore the fit between Xunzi’s epistemological thought and the basic themes of ritual and music reconstruction,starting from the cognitive subject and the cognitive object,and systematically discuss the close connection between Xunzi’s epistemological thought of "unblocking" and "correcting the name" and the reconstruction of ritual and music.It also systematically discusses the close connection between Xunzi’s epistemological ideas of "unmasking" and "correcting names" and the reconstruction of ritual and music.Finally,the significance,contemporary value and limitations of Xunzi’s epistemological thought are analysed.The analysis of Xunzi’s epistemological thought through the lens of the reconstruction of ritual and music will help us to better examine the unique way of knowledge in Chinese philosophy,and thus further deepen our understanding of Xunzi’s epistemological thought.Moreover,Xunzi’s epistemological thought is not only an important part of Xunzi’s thought,but also still has inspiration and relevance to contemporary ways of knowing and thinking.
