An Analysis Of G.A.Cohen’s Thoughts Of Egalitarianism

As one of the founders and main representatives of analytical Marxism,Cohen devoted himself to defending Marx’s historical materialism in his early years,and later turned to political philosophy research.From the standpoint of Marxism,Cohen used the method of analytical philosophy to criticize the left-wing liberal equality theory and libertarian equality theory,and put forward his own socialist egalitarian thought,which is to replace capitalism with socialism and socialist equality.doctrine defended.Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism has attracted the attention of domestic and foreign academic circles since its inception,and the research on it has achieved certain results.This paper attempts to more comprehensively demonstrate Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism and its contemporary value.This paper mainly consists of four parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the purpose,significance,research status at home and abroad,research methods and research innovations of this topic.This part expounds the reason and value of this topic,laying a foundation for the analysis of Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism.The second part analyzes the formation of Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism.The intensification of capitalist social contradictions that began in the 1970 s,the dilemma of the times encountered by the communist movement caused by the drastic changes in Eastern Europe and the disintegration of the Soviet Union,as well as Cohen’s unique learning and growth experience are the background for his thought;Marx’s ideas on equality,The theoretical contention of western equality thought is the theoretical origin of his thought;the theoretical accumulation of Cohen’s personal academic research in the early stage and the later transition from defending Marx’s historical materialism to political philosophy are the inner motivation for the formation of his thought.The third part analyzes the main content of Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism.It mainly starts from three aspects: the core connotation of Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism,the ideal community and two principles proposed by Cohen,and Cohen’s analysis of market socialism and equality.Cohen used the method of analytic philosophy to criticize the principle of self-ownership,explained the compatibility of freedom and equality,and proposed the equality of available benefits.Cohen put forward the principle of equality and sharing in the ideal community he conceived,and on this basis,he answered whether the socialist ideal is feasible and desirable.On the basis of theoretical construction of socialist egalitarianism,Cohen carried out three aspects of market socialism and its advantages,the inequality of abilities under market socialism,and the construction of a fair social mechanism to ensure equal opportunities under market socialism.Analytical thinking shows Cohen’s value pursuit and practical exploration of a socialist equal society.The fourth part is based on the objective evaluation and analysis of the progress and limitations of Cohen’s thoughts of egalitarianism,and discusses the enlightenment significance of the reasonable part of his thought to the current socialist construction of our country.
